Pędzące Jeże ENG

Where Do Hedgehogs Scurry at Night?

I recently discovered where hedgehogs go in the evening. It turns out they like to race, just like in Spiky and Furious. That’s why a new game from the Pędzącyverse was created Pędzące Jeże.

I invite you to check out this review of this sharp board game

Most players are probably familiar with Pędzące Żółwie the game where we pushed our turtles forward to reach the finish line as quickly as possible. To do this, we used cards that allowed us to move all players’ turtles. That’s where the twist in the game came in that turtles could give their friends a ride on their shells, so you had to play your cards strategically to ensure your turtle benefited the most from this turtlebolt”

Overall, there was a lot of laughter while playing, and whether we were playing with young children or older kids who are having trouble collecting board games, everyone had a great time.

Now it’s the hedgehogs’ turn

This time, different animals are racing, but the game also ends when the first hedgehog reaches the finish line. However, we can’t give each other a ride, because that would damage our chassis. We can, though, move all the hedgehogs depending on the color of the card we play.

The first twist in the game is the scoring. The first player to finish the race receives an additional 3 points. Because of this, you have to be careful about how close you position yourself to the finish line so you don’t give someone free points. There’s a bit of risk involved here, and that alone had me bristling with excitement.

Another twist is that the position of all the hedgehogs on the track will be crucial at the end of the race. That’s when we’ll check the cards left in our hands, and they’ll act as a point multiplier for the corresponding hedgehog color. So, for example, if the red hedgehog is on space 2 and we have 2 red cards—that is, 2 × 2—it will give us 4 points. It’s both educational and fun. That’s why we have to balance our cards so that “our chosen” hedgehog gets as far as possible and we still have cards left to score points for it.

The next twist is that if a hedgehog is left behind on a negative space, we lose that many points. That’s why we want to move all the hedgehogs so we don’t get negative points.

Are you ready to take it to the next level?

The advanced variant adds another twist to the game. In this case, the scoring gets even crazier. Double-move cards left in your hand multiply the hedgehog’s position by 2. However, if you have two single-move cards of the same color at the end of the race, they’ll turn into a 5x multiplier. This takes card management to the next level, as they can really shake things up in the final scoring. It also means that you don’t necessarily have to win the race to score a lot of points for it. All you need are the right multipliers.

Summary

I have to “bristle” a bit about something. This review was the result of a gentleman’s bet. A friend of mine didn’t believe I could write a review of the game Pędzące Jeże, and he also didn’t believe that this game would be so much fun. Our game night was coming to an end, and we were looking for something quick. Literally just one game. In the end, we played it three times because we absolutely had to see just how fast those hedgehogs could be. Along the way, we got a little excited ourselves, which is why we happily continued our Tour de Hedgehog. I couldn’t do anything else, so I took up the gauntlet and shouted, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

As far as I’m concerned, this is a great standalone expansion to the Pędzącyverse, offering something similar but with a spiky twist. It’s a super simple little game perfect for playing with anyone in a totally laid-back, stress-free atmosphere. Though I won’t deny there was some excitement when someone suddenly made a good bet and scored 15 points by keeping the right cards in their hand at the end of the race. That’s what I love most about this game.

Final Verdict: So spiky
