Fateforge Chronicles of Kaan – Clash of the Immortals
Fateforge Chronicles of Kaan – Clash of the Immortals expansion continues the story from the base game. This time, our brave heroes will return to their Wilderness. However, our rest will be very short. For there will be new problems, new areas to visit, new enemies and some cool variety.
The plot must go on
I won’t elaborate too much on the story of this expansion. However, I’m glad that we will find out what happened next. There will also be some important choices waiting for us, and the storyline from the base game will help us make some tough decisions.
To start our adventure with this expansion we have to reset all our progress from the main campaign. Something I didint like. It was probably done so that we wouldn’t be too powerful. Though at least as a compensation we get the starting cash to re-purchase our skills. We can even unlock second-level skills. It was so good because I could build myself the kind of hero I wanted. Skipping on some weak abilities.
I played my adventure with a Nobleman and an Enchantress. Enchantress is a new character that we get in this expansion. She is such a sorceress who has strong abilities to support the team. Because she can turn the results on the dice into tokens, which she can keep for future turns, or even give them out to other team members. I found her a little hard to play at first. Because I couldn’t find cool synergies between my characters. However, thanks to the fact that I unlocked the ability to distribute these tokens, my nobleman was able to use more skills in his turn. He became a really powerful killing machine, and was even able to tank some damage.
More cooperation
Another new feature is team maneuvers. These are special abilities that provide bonuses to the entire team. They require us to place our dice on them, but it’s worth it. I had Collective Assault, which increased my mobility, and Testudo Maneuver, which gave me an extra block tokens. A super idea that provided our dice with additional uses. It also increased the level of cooperation between us.
The campaign also provides us with new items. As in the base game, we won’t get too many of them. Some of them are only reusable twice. Something I didn’t exactly like. Because I don’t struggle to get to some chest to use it only 2 times during my adventure.
Challenging enemies
The new addition also gives us new enemies. We will face Orcs, Trolls, Gnolls, Barbarians and even various mounts. Because Clash of the Immortals introduces cavalry. Some warriors will ride horses or such bird-dinosaurs without wings. The whole trick will be for us to kill the rider first and then the mount. Which will make things a little more difficult for us in some fights. In my opinion, this is very cool, but I don’t like the movement of cavalry, which is mostly quite random. Because the outcome of some scenarios sometimes depended on a single dice roll, but I don’t want to spoil too much.
The new enemies are quite challenging, and the whole campaign was certainly not easy. Especially the first few fights. Because I’ve already stopped complaining about the skirmishes being too easy as in the base game. Sometimes I had to sit for several minutes wondering how to position myself well so that the reaction of the enemies would not do too much damage to us.
In this increased level of difficulty will help on various henchmen who will be able to join us. We will then get their special card, which will tell us what they can do in their turn. They will also move around the map like normal heroes. In one mission there was an option to take control of a herd of cheetahs. It was simply awesome.
In Clash of the Immortals, there are 8 fights, including one with a boss. This final clash is difficult and I really enjoyed it. The entire Clash of the Immortals can be completed in two long sittings. Which provides quite a lot of gameplay, but also leaves such a slight hunger. Because now I have to wait for the next add-on, which has already been announced by Mighty Boards.
Summary
Fateforge Chronicles of Kaan – Clash of the Immortals is a great addition to a sensational game. It introduces a lot of new interesting features diversifying our gameplay with new enemies, new mechanics and also provides us with a new hero. This is what I expect from game expansions.
Final verdict: Now all that’s left for me to do is wait. Are We There Yet?
